Several milestones for Preservation Haddonfield!!!

Preservation Haddonfield is one year old this month!! Preservation Haddonfield’s first meeting was in October 2009, what a long successful year it has been.  In one year, PH has taken part in the rejection of an application to development the green and open space near Boxwood Hall, and has rallied the residents of Haddonfield against the potential development of the Bancroft property. The grass roots, not for profit, 501c3 group started with a small handful of concerned residents and has grown to have more than 150 members that receive the weekly email updates.

With the help of PH more than 250 lawn signs are up in town with more on the way, letting our Commissioners know that the vision of Haddonfield’s future does not involve high density development at the Bancroft site.

With your help and your donations PH will continue to be a force to deal with for developers and people who want to demolish and alter the look of Haddonfield. Learn more about PH’s origins here….

Preservation Haddonfield was formed as a result of a historic house demolition on Redman Ave. in Haddonfield. A property built in the late 1800′s by a notable local architect, Clement Remington. The property was lost to the wrecking ball. A grass roots, like minded group came together with a common cause, to preserve Haddonfield, the way it is now, and keep it that way for generations to come.

    All—

At my request, we have scheduled a special Commissioners meeting for Monday evening at 6:30. At that time, I will recommend to the other Commissioners that we withdraw the redevelopment plan for the time being. I am making this suggestion in light of comments from many citizens about ways in which the plan might be improved and the report of a committee of the Planning Board concerning the plan received today. The committee report makes a number of thoughtful comments concerning perceived inconsistencies between the redevelopment plan and the Borough master plan that I believe we need to take into account. While I do not agree with everything said, it is important that we provide adequate information for the Planning Board and all of our citizens to understand the strengths of any proposed plan. It is also essential that we consider workable alternatives that enhance the benefits of any plan for all of our citizens.

I am very optimistic that we will be able to address the concerns that have been expressed and prepare a plan in the near future that will encourage a balanced, mixed-use vision for the property.

The Planning Board meeting will still take place on Monday at 7:30 although its agenda will certainly be much shorter if the Commissioners act as I recommend. We continue to welcome your comments on appropriate uses of the Bancroft property.
