In celebration of National Historic Preservation Month May 2010, Preservation Haddonfield honored four extraordinary preservation efforts over the past year in the town of Haddonfield. Preservation Haddonfield, a local grass-roots historic preservation advocacy group, awarded four preservation projects with the Joan L. Aiken Award, named after the woman whose enthusiasm and passion for Colonial Haddonfield’s historic resources led to the 1971 creation of our Historic District. The winners of this award demonstrated dedication and sensitivity to the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a country and a community.
Other Award Winners:
#3- Tony Andalft & Marv Lawson 140 Westmont Ave. Haddonfield
For sigificant exterior restoration of their Historic Home, the Thomas Redman House. The owners meticulously peeled away layers of Stucco to reveal the original brick on their 1700′s farm house.
#4- Jason & Reena Schaffer 61 Kings Highway West Haddonfield
Complete interior and exterior rehabilitation of a sadly neglected Clement Remington designed home in Haddonfield’s Historic District. This large house and property surely would have seen the wrecking ball had it not been protected by the Historic District ordinances prohibiting demolition to unique and historic properties in the Borough of Hadonfield. Thank goodness the Schaffers found this home and saved it!! Using original drawings and photos this once grand old Lady was brought back to life.
Congratulations to all the winners for a job well done!!!!
